A Rajinikanth film is always associated with glitz and grandeur. So is Lingaa. It is loaded with all typical Rajinikanth elements in it. Whatmore a Rajini film comes after four years and interestingly ion his day of inchoation.
Director K S Ravikumar has proved in the past that he can package all masala elements in right commix in a Rajini film without compromising on the story. He does the same in Lingaa, but misses out on the screenplay.
Lingaa is plenary of the Superstar charisma, his brand of comedy, action and typical emotional elements. Grand sets, a collage of artistes, best of technicians integrate value to Lingaa. Though he comes after Endhiran, Rajinikanth doesn’t disappoint his fans. He takes them on an engrossing journey all through. Whatmore two Rajini on screen integrate to the ecstasy of the audience.
The movie revolves around Lingaa (Rajini) who along with his friends indulge inpetty malefaction to make a livelihood. He has an affluent past, which he execrates. Lakshmi (Anushka) is abaft him. There is a reason. Because Lingaa is wanted in a village to open an age-old temple constructed by his grand father Lingeswaran (Rajinikanth).
Situation coerced him to go to the village, where he comes to ken about his grand father. Lingeswran was not just an ICS officer in 1939 but additionally a Maharaja of the village. He strives to come up with a dam to avail villagers take up agriculture in fulklflow. But there arev some hurdles to it.
Though he single handedly pledges all hisn property and eventually comes uyp with one, the inculpation falls on him of cheating the villagers by a cunning British officer. He opted to leave the village with his ladylove Bharathi (Sonakshi).
Cut to present, there is Jagapathy Babu, a maleficent man MP who wants to damage the dam and thereby make some mazuma. Now the onus is on Lingaa to set things right.
Rajini is flesh and blood of the movie. He does commence from where he left in Endhiran.Performance wise, the elder Rajini steals the show with his trademark style and mannerisms and he has more scope in the film. As a collector in British period and as a dam engineer, the elder Rajini rocks. Lingaa is released on the 65th birthday of the actor, but he looks not a day older than thirty years. Such is his magic and charisma.Anushka makes for a pretty portrayal while Sonakshi as the village belle from British period impresses with her cute and naughty expressions.
Brahmanandam ’s one-liners evoke humour at few places. . An immensely colossal star cast including Vishwanath, Vijayakaumatr, Ilavarasu, Nizhalgal Ravi besides Jagapathy babu does their job well.
Rahman’;s Gasolina and Oh Nanba echo in our auditory perceivers, while Randy’s camera captures sizably voluminous set in style.
Lingaa commences well but loses steam as it progresses. The impotent screenplay and hurried events in second half mars the exhibition.
