Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, who has been a prominent figure in the industry for nearly 18 years, recently revealed her intense feelings about her dual roles as an actor and director. While she has achieved significant success as an actress, Kangana candidly admits that she “just hates being an actor” but finds immense satisfaction in directing.
When asked about the challenges of acting versus filmmaking, Kangana didn’t hold back. “No, acting is not daunting at all…. I think acting for me is too passive,” she shared. Expressing her frustration, she continued, “I just hate being an actor. I just hate it with so much intensity. You come to the set and you’re always wondering, ‘What’s happening? What’s going on? Which scene are we doing?’ You’re constantly in a state of uncertainty, and it feels like so much time is being wasted. These are the best years of my life, and I hate feeling like I’m not making the most of them.”
Kangana contrasted this with her love for directing, saying, “Being a director, I love it. You ask me, ‘What’s going on?’ I know, and I’ll tell you.” She believes her experience as an actor makes her a better director, as she understands the vulnerabilities actors face on set. “Actors are my favorite people on the sets because I know what’s going on in their minds. I like to take care of them, guide them, and ensure they feel supported.”
Currently, Kangana is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film “Emergency,” where she not only directs but also stars as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film, set to release on September 6, 2023, is based on the true events of the 1975 Emergency, a pivotal moment in Indian history under the leadership of one of its most powerful women.
