A couple of days prior, an account named ‘Varaha Warrior’ posted a video of a young man lighting a cigarette inside a sanctum sanctorum. To this video, claims contrary to facts were added and propagated. Chinmayi, however, responded by stating that this incident happened four years ago, and the recent claims made about the person in the video are entirely untrue. She noted that a case was filed regarding the incident at the time, adding, “I don’t have full details on what happened after that,” but emphasized that the Government Fact Check Department had clarified at the time that the information in that original post was false. She pointed out that despite the original post still existing, the current post containing false information is being repeatedly made viral. What’s alarming, she opined, is that while the fact-check post received very little response, the post with false information garnered thousands of shares. This, she believes, “suggests that misinformation reaches more people and creates a situation where it is believed to be true.” In her video, she also tagged the official Andhra Pradesh government social media accounts that the then government fact-check department had shared in response to that post four years ago, now that the video was going viral again.
