Jani Master’s Shocking Allegations Erupt
Renowned choreographer Jani Master expressed deep distress over ongoing disputes within the Tollywood Dancers Association, lodging a sensational complaint with producers. He alleged that the Federation is acting against the Dancers Association, protecting those involved in corruption, and obstructing action against individuals embezzling dancers’ money. These developments have become a significant topic of discussion in film circles. The disputes within the Tollywood Dancers Association are surprising everyone. This conflict, initially framed as Jani Master vs. Sekhar Master, has escalated into a war between the Telugu Film Federation and the Dancers Association.
Specifically, when Jani Master‘s wife, Sumalatha, who is the president of the Dancers Association, called for by-elections for ten positions vacated by resignations, information emerged that the Film Federation is threatening to reinstate the resigned members without elections. Consequently, Jani Master met with producers and filed a complaint, stating that the Film Federation is acting against them and demanding its reprimand. A letter along with a related video has gone viral on social media concerning this matter.
Federation Shields Corruption, Dancers Suffer
In his letter, Jani Master stated: “As a responsible choreographer and former President of TFTDDA, I have brought my anguish to the attention of the producers. As a film worker, I believe that film producers have contributed to my growth and welfare, which is why I consider every producer to be like a god. We will always work wholeheartedly for producers with gratitude. Regardless of whether they are big or small, if a producer thrives, they enable ten others to thrive. If a producer is secure, they provide employment to ten workers. Such producers are facing numerous obstacles today. Despite severe difficulties from piracy, theatre shortages, and some individuals engaging in corruption and illegal money collection, producers, driven by their passion for cinema and the noble intention of providing employment to thousands of workers, are creating work for all of us. When we try to take action against some program in-charges within our union who are embezzling money meant for our dancers from producers, the Federation, however, covers up their mistakes, cooperates with them, and obstructs our association from taking any action. Due to this, the affected dancer members are putting immense pressure on the committee members and the President to take action against the corrupt individuals. And that is why, when we tried to take action, the Federation interfered and tried to dismiss the wrongdoings of the corrupt. While producers are giving appropriate payment for our dancers’ hard work, some individuals are stealing that money. It is painful that the Federation’s leaders are supporting such individuals.”
Considering the welfare of the producers as its responsibility, the Dancers Association, under the leadership of its current President V.V. Sumalatha Devi, examined the activities of some corrupt program in-charges and their fraudulent bills submitted to production companies. In a general body meeting, the association decided to suspend those involved in corruption and to remove from their positions those in the union who had cheated producers and dancers. As a result, the General Secretary, who was involved in corruption, was removed from his post. However, some committee members resigned in support of him, and the General Body Meeting passed a resolution to remove them and hold by-elections. At this critical juncture, the Federation is not cooperating with the Dancers Association. They are causing severe difficulties for President Sumalatha Devi and the remaining committee members, forcing them to work with the corrupt individuals, meddling in the union’s internal affairs, and infringing upon its freedom.
Producers Called to End Tollywood Turmoil
During the General Council meeting of the Federation on July 16, President Sumalatha Devi was subjected to immense pressure to reinstate and accommodate those individuals whom the association had suspended and removed from their positions. The remarks made by some council members deeply hurt the Dancers Association. They argued, “It’s the producers’ money, isn’t it? They haven’t stolen your association’s funds, have they? What’s wrong with turning a blind eye to such matters and moving on?” Despite hearing such remarks, the elders of the Federation remained silent, which the association president and committee members found unacceptable. The Federation elders claim to be working for the welfare of producers, yet they are advocating for ignoring those who are cheating producers. They are heavily pressuring the Dancers Association to reinstate such individuals into their positions, threatening ‘non-cooperation’ from the Federation if they do not comply. While the Federation elders claim that the welfare of workers is their primary objective, they are simultaneously attempting to protect those who have stolen money meant for dancers. While President Sumalatha Devi, as an individual woman, is exposing corruption within the association, taking action against those defrauding producers, and contributing to the union’s development, the Federation, citing its authority, is imposing baseless rules, interfering in internal matters, demanding compliance with their directives, and threatening to revoke Federation membership if the Dancers Association does not yield. Moreover, they are exhibiting gender bias under the pretext that ‘Will a woman not listen to us? Our reputation will be tarnished.’
The Dancers’ Union always prioritizes the welfare of producers. Its dancers will not tolerate bearers and program in-charges who cheat producers, nor their corruption, and will take strict action against them. However, they are facing severe problems from the Federation.
