Legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR) made an immense contribution to Telugu cinema, and to honor his legacy, his 100th birth anniversary is being celebrated grandly by his family. As part of the celebrations, King Nagarjuna announced that the prestigious ANR National Award will be bestowed upon Megastar Chiranjeevi. The event will take place on September 28th in Hyderabad, with Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachchan gracing the occasion as a special guest.
The ANR National Award is a prestigious recognition given to film actors who have contributed significantly to the craft of cinema. This award was paused after the passing of Akkineni Nageswara Rao. However, Nagarjuna, during the celebrations, announced that the award will now be given annually to honor those who have dedicated themselves to cinema. This year, Chiranjeevi will receive the award, which holds special significance due to his close association with the Akkineni family. Both Chiranjeevi and ANR shared the screen in the film Mechanic Alludu, and their bonding has remained strong over the years.
In addition to this, Nagarjuna also revealed that some of ANR’s most iconic films will be screened across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in honor of his centennial celebrations. Classics such as Devadas, Bharya Bharthalu, Doctor Chakravarthy, Sudigundalu, Prem Nagar, Premabhishekam, and Manam will be showcased in selected theaters from September 20th to 22nd. Entry for these screenings is free on a first-come, first-serve basis, allowing fans and cinema lovers to revisit ANR’s timeless work.
These screenings and the award presentation are not just a tribute to ANR’s illustrious career, but a way to celebrate his contributions that have left a lasting legacy in Telugu cinema.
