Ravi Teja’s latest film, Mister Bachchan, directed by Harish Shankar, was inspired by the Bollywood hit Raid, but with significant modifications. Unfortunately, the film turned out to be a disaster at the box office, with collections dropping drastically from the second day onwards.
Mr. Bachchan opened with promising collections of Rs. 4.56 crores on its first day. However, the excitement was short-lived as the film quickly lost momentum. Trade analysts have declared it another disaster in Ravi Teja’s career.
Final box office figures reveal that the movie struggled to recover even 20% of its investment. While Nizam area collections were decent, several areas in Andhra Pradesh couldn’t even bring in Rs. 10 lakhs. The movie was labeled an epic disaster after its first weekend, with negative shares during weekdays.
By the end of its first week, Mister Bachchan had failed to make a mark worldwide, falling far short of its Rs. 32 crore target. With a recovery of only a fraction of its required Rs. 24 crores, the film’s second-week performance was even worse.
In light of the losses incurred, Harish Shankar reportedly stepped forward to compensate the distributors by returning Rs. 6 crores from his remuneration. Rumors suggest that he has already returned Rs. 2 crores and agreed to forgo an additional Rs. 4 crores from his future payments.
Despite the efforts, Mister Bachchan received heavy criticism right from its release, with audiences finding the routine concept of three fights and six songs lacking substance. The first half was especially criticized for wasting time without a solid storyline, while Ravi Teja’s chemistry with Bhagyashree Borse was also trolled on social media.
