Ravi Teja’s action-drama Mr Bachchan, directed by Harish Shankar, generated buzz before its August 15, 2024 release but ultimately underperformed at the box office. Despite its potential, the film, which is a Telugu remake of the 2018 Hindi movie Raid starring Ajay Devgn, struggled to attract a substantial audience. The movie follows the story of an Income Tax officer (played by Ravi Teja) who conducts a raid on a corrupt MP, portrayed by Jagapathi Babu. Bhagyashri Borse makes her Tollywood debut as Jikki, Ravi Teja’s love interest.
Although the film featured a solid storyline and Ravi Teja’s strong fan base, Mr Bachchan did not meet commercial expectations. After a 27-day theatrical run, the film transitioned to digital platforms and is now available for streaming on Netflix in multiple languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.
In response to the film’s box office underperformance, both Ravi Teja and director Harish Shankar reportedly returned part of their remuneration to help reduce financial losses. Ravi Teja is said to have refunded ₹4 crore, while Harish Shankar returned ₹2 crore. The movie also features Subhalekha Sudhakar, Satya, and Sachin Khedekar in supporting roles. Despite its struggle at the box office, the film offers an engaging take on the battle against corruption.
