Naga Chaitanya Finally Reveals the Meaning Behind His Morse Code Tattoo
Naga Chaitanya, known for keeping personal details under wraps, has always been secretive about his morse code tattoo on his left hand. However, during the promotions for his film Laal Singh Chaddha, he finally opened up about the tattoo and its significance after being asked to share some of his most memorable fan encounters.
In a candid interview with Bollywood Bubble, Chaitanya revealed that many of his fans had attempted to copy the tattoo without knowing its meaning. He mentioned how some had even tattooed his name, imitating the design. However, the actor advised against it, saying, “I’ve met a few fans who have tattooed my name and all that and imitated this tattoo. This is not something you would want.”
The actor then explained that the morse code tattoo represents a deeply personal moment in his life—it signifies the date of his marriage to Samantha Ruth Prabhu. “It’s the day I got married. I wouldn’t want the fans to get that,” he said, giving insight into the emotional value behind the tattoo.
With his tattoo now linked to a past relationship, Chaitanya was asked whether he had considered altering it following his divorce from Samantha in 2021. Laughing off the question, he responded, “I haven’t thought about it till date. There’s nothing to change. It’s fine,” showing that he is at peace with keeping the tattoo despite the end of the relationship.
For those unaware, Samantha Ruth Prabhu had also inked a tattoo of “Chay” (Chaitanya’s nickname) near her waist. In several photos, she proudly flaunted it. However, after their separation, during an Ask Me Anything session, Samantha hinted at regret over the tattoo, advising her younger self to avoid getting inked. “My advice to my younger self would be not to get a tattoo. Ever!! Never get tattooed,” she wrote, reflecting on her experience.
Naga Chaitanya and Samantha tied the knot in 2017 following both Hindu and Christian ceremonies, but they parted ways after four years, announcing their divorce in 2021. Since then, Naga Chaitanya has moved forward in his personal life and is now engaged to The Night Manager actress Sobhita Dhulipala. The couple exchanged rings on August 8, 2024, in a private ceremony attended by close family members in Hyderabad.
The emotional journey behind Naga Chaitanya’s tattoo adds yet another layer to the personal significance that tattoos can hold, even when relationships evolve or end. For both Naga and Samantha, the tattoos have become lasting reminders of their shared past and personal growth.
