Tamannaah Bhatia, an actress with a strong presence in both Bollywood and South Indian cinema, recently shared her views on the key differences between these two vibrant film industries. Speaking on a podcast, she emphasized how the deeply rooted nature of South Indian films contributes to their success. According to Tamannaah, South Indian films resonate more with audiences due to their connection with geographical locations and cultural contexts, which lend authenticity to the storytelling.
She pointed out that South Indian filmmakers often focus on universal human emotions like familial bonds and revenge, making their stories relatable on a global scale. These filmmakers, she believes, tell stories they know best without attempting to cater to diverse segments. The result is a more grounded, straightforward narrative that appeals to audiences worldwide.
In contrast, she highlighted that Bollywood films sometimes aim to appeal to a broader and more diverse audience, which can dilute the narrative. “Many Bollywood films are made for ‘everybody’s consumption,’ which might not always work well,” she said. Tamannaah praised films like Laapataa Ladies for maintaining an authentic, localized approach.
On the work front, Tamannaah is actively involved in both Hindi and South Indian projects, with films like Stree 2 and Vedaa and upcoming projects such as Odela 2 and the web series Daring Partners.
