“Attitude Star” Chandarhas’s much-hyped debut, ‘Barabar Premistha‘, has shockingly crashed at the box office, becoming a grim saga in Tollywood. Released just two weeks ago with significant investment, the film has recorded truly abysmal collections, leading to massive, unprecedented losses for its producers. This disastrous performance, recovering less than a third of its budget, has sent shockwaves through the industry.
Box Office Disaster: Massive Losses
‘Barabar Premistha’, starring Chandarhas, who debuted as an ‘Attitude Star‘, has crashed at the box office, generating truly shocking collections. Released just two weeks ago, the film, on which approximately Rs. 3 crores were reportedly spent, managed to collect only about Rs. 82 lakhs in total. This dismal performance means that not even the interest on the investment was recovered, making massive losses inevitable for the producers, and becoming a hot topic in Tollywood.
From the very beginning of his entry as a hero, Chandarhas earned the moniker of ‘Attitude Star’. He cultivated this image, even displaying it when posing for media photos, which initially led to severe trolling. He later adopted ‘Attitude Star’ as his surname, believing it would be beneficial for publicity. He debuted as a hero with the film ‘Ramnagar Bunny’ but failed to impress significantly. After a gap, he now starred in ‘Barabar Premistha’. Directed by Sampath Rudra, the film featured Meghana Mukherjee as the heroine, with Muralidhar Goud, Abhay Naveen, and Lakshman playing key roles. Produced by Geda Chandu, Gayatri Chinni, and AVR under the banners of CC Creations and AVR Movie Wonders, and presented by Kakarlla Satyanarayana, the movie failed to attract audiences; to be precise, audiences completely ignored it.
His controversies were the primary reason for this widespread apathy. Chandarhas had sung a promotional song titled ‘Gunji Gunji’, in which he used some vulgar words. This led to widespread trolling and severe criticism, further exacerbated by his public lashing out at netizens. All these incidents had a strong negative impact on the film, causing audiences to pay no attention to it. The team had hoped the controversy would be a positive for publicity, but it drastically backfired, turning into a significant detriment. Consequently, ‘Barabar Premistha’ did not receive the expected response. In reality, it was a movie that should have performed moderately well, but Chandarhas and his team’s over-the-top actions severely impacted its potential.
Attitude Star’s Actions Backfire
The movie has almost concluded its theatrical run, having been pulled from theaters prematurely. While it was initially stated that the film cost four crores, it was reportedly made for two crores, with publicity and other expenses pushing the total investment to around three crores. As for its earnings, the Sacnilk site revealed total collections of approximately Rs. 82 lakhs. India Net is estimated to be around Rs. 70 lakhs, with the share reportedly only around Rs. 30-40 lakhs. These can only be described as disastrous collections, not even enough to cover the interest on the investment. Ultimately, it is clear that the producers lost everything on this movie.
They had hoped for recovery through an OTT deal, but so far, no such agreement has been finalized, adding another negative to the film’s woes. Trade pundits consider this a total loss. At the same time, ‘Barabar Premistha’ serves as a stark example of how not to promote a film and, more broadly, how one should and should not conduct oneself in the industry.
Looking Ahead
“Barabar Premistha’s” colossal flop is a harsh, costly lesson. No OTT recovery, declared a total loss – it exposes critical missteps in promotion and industry conduct. For Chandarhas, success demands meticulous planning, humility, and, crucially, audience trust. A vital wake-up call for all aspiring industry players.
