Ranveer Singh’s Rampage: ‘Dhurandhar 2’ Shakes the Box Office! Record Collections!! The much-anticipated movie ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has been released, with Ranveer Singh once again unleashing his full acting prowess. Initial reports indicate a blockbuster opening, with ‘Dhurandhar 2’ first-day collections crossing an astounding ₹200 crores. The film is stirring up a storm in theaters as a Ugadi treat, with Ranveer’s mass action being described as superb, and grand action sequences featuring Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal delivering stupendous performances. Posts are already going viral on social media about Ranveer Singh’s rampage in Pakistan, giving terrorists a tough time. Word is that this film is many times more spectacular than its first installment. Let’s delve into the movie!

The Bollywood film `Dhurandhar`, released last December, became a sensational hit, garnering over ₹1300 crores in collections, surpassing all expectations and shaking the Indian box office. Consequently, immense expectations have been built up for Part 2, `Dhurandhar 2` (Dhurandhar The Revenge). Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film stars Ranveer Singh as the hero, Sara Arjun as the heroine, with Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Rakesh Bedi in pivotal roles. Aditya Dhar, Jyoti Deshpande, and Lokesh Dhar produced this movie, which was jointly bankrolled by Jio Studios and B62 Studios. It was released today, Thursday (March 19), on the occasion of the Ugadi festival. So, does this installment surpass the first part? Does it have the potential to shake the box office? Did this highly anticipated movie meet those expectations? Let’s explore that in the review.

The story of this film continues from the movie `Dhurandhar`. Jaskeerath Singh Ramgi (Ranveer Singh) witnesses his father killed by local MLA’s men over a land dispute. They also assault the women of his household. Consequently, he takes revenge on them and kills them, leading him to jail. There, some people attack and kidnap Jaskeerath. Cut to, Ajay Sanyal (R. Madhavan), the head of India’s Intelligence Bureau, orchestrates his kidnapping and assigns him a mission (Dhurandhar) to eliminate terrorists in Pakistan. Once Jaskeerath sets foot in Pakistan, he transforms into a terrorist named Hamza Ali Mazari. There, he slowly rises as a leader. He kills Rehman Decoyt, the leader of the Baloch terrorist gang, and rises to power. First, he becomes the leader of Baloch, and then emerges as the King of the Lyari region. What challenges did Hamza face as he rose to become a terrorist leader in Pakistan? What personal repercussions did his family experience? How did he maintain his cover without arousing suspicion? How was he able to wield his influence in Pakistan? Ultimately, how did he eliminate the terrorists there? The film explores the struggles he faced in this process.

The Revenge Story Unfolds

With the sensational success of `Dhurandhar`, `Dhurandhar 2` had huge expectations. As for whether this movie met those expectations, it is on par with the first film, but it doesn’t surpass it. The first part arrived without any expectations. Aditya Dhar’s direction and the action took the film to another level, making audiences exclaim ‘Wow!’ on screen, which is why it received widespread acclaim. However, having already seen the first part, audiences now expected the second installment to be even better. It can be said that the second part faltered in meeting those expectations.

The first half-hour of the film is racy, racing ahead with continuous action and emotions. Adding to this, the background music (BGM) was excellent, giving goosebumps. Scenes depicting the hero’s family troubles, losing his father, his family suffering, and his rebellion to eliminate those responsible due to lack of justice were superb. After that, the film was on the next level until the IB officer rescued him from jail, trained him as an agent, and sent him to Pakistan. Following his arrival in Pakistan, they showed how he rose there, how he became King of Baloch and Lyari. The terrorist situations and political conditions there were depicted vividly. During this phase, the film proceeds slowly. The strategies the hero employs to become king and the scenes where he eliminates terrorists one by one to rise were good. After that, the story revolved around the same points. The interval bang was fantastic. The story behind demonetization was good.

Hype vs. Reality Check

While the second half felt a bit fast-paced at times, it eventually returned to its initial rhythm. Once he realizes he is the agent, all that’s left is the fight for revenge. Those episodes were good. The climax was fantastic, and the emotions that followed were also captivating. However, the film prioritized family emotions along with action. Scenes involving the family in the village and the family in Pakistan are emotional. In an attempt to show every detail, the movie runs slowly and struggles to maintain momentum, leading to some boredom. Afterwards, attempts were made to uplift the movie with high-impact moments and action scenes interspersed throughout. In the second half, the scenes eliminating individual terrorists, leaders, and the SP were well-executed. The hotel party scene was also amazing. On the other hand, the Dawood Ibrahim scenes are even more captivating. The climax scenes were good, emotionally engaging, and truly heart-wrenching. The dialogues in the film were fantastic, effectively instilling patriotism while striking fear into the enemies. The climax fight twist, the interval twist, and the demonetization twist were all well-done.

The hero’s performance is a highlight in the film. The roles of Sanjay Dutt and R. Madhavan are also very captivating. The background score was fantastic, it can be said. Patriotism-related dialogues stand out as highlights.

Ranveer’s Power-Packed Performance

The biggest drawback of the film is its runtime. Three hours and 49 minutes is an extraordinary length. With high expectations following the first film, this sequel failed to meet them. It didn’t offer anything new, with many scenes from the first part being repeated, which reduces interest in the movie. The runtime is a significant drawback; it could easily have been cut by more than half an hour. Although family emotions were given priority, they didn’t connect to the intended extent. The film doesn’t live up to the standard set in its first half-hour, and the second half also dragged similarly. The climax fight was heavily prolonged, and the villains were not portrayed strongly. All these factors stood as minuses for the movie.

Hero Ranveer Singh seamlessly immersed himself into the role of terrorist leader Hamza Ali, delivering a one-man show. His acting as a struggling individual, a terrorist, and someone fighting for the country is outstanding. He impressed in action scenes, emotional scenes, mass dialogues, and patriotic sequences, excelling even in terms of emotions. In a single word, Ranveer Singh elevated the movie to another level. Sara Arjun impressed within her scope and performed well in emotional scenes. Sanjay Dutt’s role as the SP is entertaining, and he also did a good job. Arjun Rampal’s performance as Major Iqbal is captivating. R. Madhavan’s performance is astounding; in the climax, all eyes are on him, and his acting in the strategies and the climax twist makes you say ‘Wow!’ The rest of the cast impressed within the limits of their roles.

Technical Brilliance, Pacing Woes

Technically, the film is very good. Director Aditya Dhar executed it stylishly, showcasing his talent in filmmaking. It was made with great intensity, and the story was narrated with extensive detail. The dialogues were fantastic, and the screenplay is on another level. However, more attention should have been paid to the runtime and dragging aspects. The climax should have been shorter, though the dialogues during that time were good. Shashwat Sachdev’s music is good, and Vikas Nowlakha’s camera work is commendable; the camera angles were also captivating. The editing, however, could have been sharper. There was no shortage of production values.

‘Dhurandhar 2’ is a fantastic movie and is expected to create a sensation at the box office. However, it’s not on par with the first part, and definitely not better. It will somewhat disappoint those who came with high expectations; the runtime also could have been cut. Overall, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ will remain another milestone in Ranveer Singh’s career. Stay tuned for more updates about this film.

Looking Ahead

“Dhurandhar 2” won’t eclipse its original, yet Ranveer’s power ensures a phenomenal box office run. Despite runtime issues and unmet expectations, its commercial triumph is undeniable. This film firmly proves charismatic leads and mass appeal will always conquer the box office!
