The “Hushar Pittalu” teaser has dropped, immediately sparking widespread debate across our region. With its youth-centric themes and surprising commencement featuring Lord Ganesha, many are questioning the message this Tollywood flick intends to convey. Is it simply catering to “Gen-Z” demands, or does it contribute to the growing concern over increasingly vulgar content and its societal impact on impressionable minds?

Good Films vs. Vulgarity: A Societal Debate

The teaser for ‘Hushar Pittalu,’ a new Tollywood film, has been released, immediately sparking questions about the message it intends to convey to civil society. Netizens are particularly concerned given the film’s youth-centric content and its notable commencement with Lord Ganesha. This controversy emerges amidst a broader societal discussion: whether “good” movies are losing their audience to increasingly vulgar content. It’s often remarked that a classic like ‘Sankarabharanam’ would struggle to find an audience today, a trend some attribute to ‘Gen-Z.’ Certain directors and producers justify their content by claiming they are simply giving this generation what it wants, and audiences, too, are embracing such material. However, critics argue that these filmmakers often fail to consider the societal message they are transmitting.

This brings us directly to ‘Hushar Pittalu.’ Its teaser, released on Wednesday, has prompted many viewers to exclaim, “Goodness, where are they taking society with this?!” The teaser begins innocuously enough with the hero standing before a Ganesha idol, praying after completing 10th grade, “Ganesh bro, you helped me get a top rank in school… please maintain that continuity in college too. Ensure no evil eyes fall upon me during this process.” Immediately, the heroine’s eyes fall upon him. The scene then abruptly cuts to the hero entering the world of cell phones. A discussion ensues about a phone, bought by his father after selling three sheep, and its utility for his son. In a later scene, when a husband tells his wife, “It’s ‘guyya guyya’ all night,” the innocent wife misinterprets, replying, “That’s not ‘guyya guyya’ on the phone… it’s ‘guyya guyya’ in studies.” The implied vulgarity of ‘guyya guyya’ leaves viewers to infer the meaning. The narrative continues with discussions among a group that encourages such activities, leading the hero and heroine to fall in love amid advice and commotion to “line up” the girl. To the shock of many, the heroine directly asks the hero, “Do you watch ‘BF’?” Further on, she tells her friend, “These sounds are just like those sounds,” and when her friend asks, “What sounds?” she replies, “That’s it… BF,” explicitly clarifying the nature of the content. Immediately after, a quote appears, attempting to justify this content by stating, “It seems today’s children learn lust while still in the womb.” The last shot in this teaser is truly appalling.

Hushar Pittalu: Divine Beginnings, Explicit Journey

While the filmmakers may attempt to depict how much today’s youth are corrupted by cell phone content, critics contend that such films ironically provide further opportunities for this very corruption. The teaser strongly suggests that ‘Hushar Pittalu’ will heavily feature vulgarity, offering only a small, perfunctory message at the end. Therefore, the fundamental question remains: what message do the makers truly intend to convey to civil society by producing this film? The ‘Hushar Pittalu’ teaser has indeed drawn mixed opinions, and it remains to be seen how this youth-targeted film will perform and what the audience’s full response will be after its complete release.

Looking Ahead

The “Hushar Pittalu” teaser leaves us pondering: is its vulgarity a message, or just more noise? Filmmakers bear a profound responsibility towards our youth. As the full film arrives, civil society must critically assess if its purported message truly outweighs its content. Watch discerningly.
