Untold Stories of Save Soil’s Epic Journey

The launch of ‘Save Soil: 100 Days That Moved The World,’ a new book compiled by Bharatanatyam dancer and Sadhguru’s daughter, Radhe Jaggi, created a stir in Hyderabad today. This book, inspired by Sadhguru and released as part of a global effort to protect soil, unveils untold stories and experiences from the global Save Soil movement, shedding light on its intricacies. The book details Sadhguru’s 100-day, 30,000-kilometer motorcycle journey across 27 countries in 2022, undertaken to raise awareness about soil extinction. Through intimate experiences of this journey, stories of volunteers, and photographs, it offers a close look at the vastness, enthusiasm, and challenges behind the movement.

Radhe Jaggi was an active participant in the Save Soil movement. Alongside ‘Project Sanskriti,’ an initiative founded by Sadhguru for the preservation and promotion of Indian traditional arts, she gave performances on numerous stages during this journey. Their team’s soil-themed narratives captivated audiences and widely disseminated the movement’s message.

The book launch event in Hyderabad also saw the participation of singer and music director Ram Miriyala and wellness entrepreneur Shilpa Reddy, who discussed the role of culture and individuals in environmental responsibility. Speakers at the event emphasized that “farmers struggle for their livelihood. At such a time, it is not right to place environmental responsibility solely on them. We must naturally increase organic matter in the soil and support farmers. At the same time, true soil conservation will only be possible if governments implement this as policy.” Ram Miriyala performed a song he personally wrote and composed, articulating the bond between humans and soil and stating that life originates and perishes in the soil, thus highlighting the urgent need to protect it. Describing soil as ‘living gold,’ the song aimed to further deepen the love for soil. Shilpa Reddy, expressing her profound inspiration from the movement’s vastness and intensity, stated, “I am just a drop in the ocean. That’s why I felt compelled to sing a song and offer my contribution to this cause.”

Culture and Policy Unite for Soil’s Future

The event at Avasa @ Kondapur featured live music, interactive segments, and engaging games, drawing participants from various sections of Hyderabad, all united by their concern for the Earth’s future and their resolve to be part of the solution.

The Save Soil movement, initiated by Sadhguru in 2022, addresses the global crisis of soil degradation by promoting policies that aim to increase the organic matter content in agricultural lands to a minimum of 3-6 percent worldwide. This movement brings together governments, scientists, farmers, international organizations, and citizens on a common platform, underscoring how crucial soil is for food security, water security, biodiversity, and climate stability. Since its inception in 2022, the movement has reached over 4.1 billion people globally, drawing worldwide attention to the importance of restoring soil health. The campaign is currently collaborating with policymakers, organizations, and experts, with a particular focus on increasing organic matter in agricultural lands and promoting sustainable land management practices. The initiative also aims to support special programs for farmers and promote soil-friendly agricultural practices, with the goals of increasing water retention capacity, reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers, and improving long-term agricultural productivity.

Ultimately, the book launch event in Hyderabad served to highlight the profound significance of the ‘Save Soil’ movement and the imperative to protect our soil, calling upon everyone to contribute their part to this vital cause.

Looking Ahead

The Hyderabad book launch truly amplified the urgent ‘Save Soil’ message for our region. As momentum builds, it’s clear this isn’t just a global movement, but a critical call for every South Indian to safeguard our precious agricultural lands. The future of our fertile Deccan plateau and its people depends on our collective action.
