Before it became a record-shattering blockbuster for Megastar Chiranjeevi, Pasivadi Pranam had a fascinating journey, initially earmarked for another star. Pasivadi Pranam: A Blockbuster’s Origin
A sensational event in Megastar Chiranjeevi’s career saw a film originally intended for Krishnam Raju eventually made with Chiranjeevi, shattering industry records. This movie, Pasivadi Pranam, became a significant milestone, largely due to Allu Aravind’s unwavering determination in bringing Chiranjeevi on board, the dramatic addition of six songs to a film that initially had none, and its unprecedented box office success under the direction of Kodandarami Reddy.
Megastar Chiranjeevi’s career took a significant turn with the film Khaidi. Following that, Chiranjeevi delivered a series of industry hit after industry hit, cementing his status as the Megastar of Tollywood. In those days, the combination of Chiranjeevi and Kodandarami Reddy was a guaranteed super hit.
Prominent actor and producer GV Narayana Rao shared interesting anecdotes about Chiranjeevi in an interview, highlighting their close friendship. He remarked, “My wedding, Chiranjeevi’s wedding, and Rajendra Prasad’s wedding all took place around the same time. Remarkably, our first children were also born in the same month.”
Chiranjeevi’s Reign: Hits & True Friendships
Narayana Rao recounted the incident concerning Chiranjeevi’s film, Pasivadi Pranam. “It was a Malayalam film, and I had purchased the remake rights,” he explained. “I showed the film to Chiranjeevi, believing he would be excellent in it. However, being a thriller, the original had no songs. Chiranjeevi expressed doubts about whether audiences would accept his film without songs and showed no interest in acting in it. He then left for Bombay to shoot for the movie Chakravarthy. In the interim, without my knowledge, Kodandarami Reddy began the same project with Krishnam Raju as the lead. Since I owned the remake rights, they shouldn’t have proceeded. I immediately called Allu Aravind and informed him about the situation.”
“Chiranjeevi had no interest in that movie,” Narayana Rao continued. “Allu Aravind then asked, ‘What does it matter who does it then?’ But I insisted, ‘No, Chiranjeevi must do this film!’ Hearing my persistence, Aravind said, ‘Is that so? Well, let’s see then. Come over and let’s talk.’ In this manner, Krishnam Raju’s film was halted, and we commenced Pasivadi Pranam with Chiranjeevi as the hero, under Kodandarami Reddy’s direction. The original had not a single song, but we included six in our version. That’s how we transformed Pasivadi Pranam into a commercial blockbuster.”
GV Narayana Rao affirmed that the film went on to become an industry hit, setting new records. Pasivadi Pranam remains a unique and special film in Chiranjeevi’s career.
Looking Ahead
Ultimately, as GV Narayana Rao affirmed, Pasivadi Pranam not only shattered records but carved a unique, special niche in Chiranjeevi’s career. This iconic blockbuster solidified Megastar’s incredible reach. Its timeless appeal and enduring legacy continue to inspire, a true feather in Telugu cinema’s cap.
