Great news for fans! Kalyani Priyadarshan, a familiar face across South Indian cinema since her debut in Akkineni Akhil’s ‘Hello’, has officially confirmed the sequel to her hit film ‘Kothaloka’. The multi-talented actress announced that filming for the much-anticipated follow-up is slated to begin this September, promising another exciting cinematic venture.
Kalyani Confirms Superwoman Sequel
Kalyani Priyadarshan, daughter of renowned Malayalam director Priyadarshan and acclaimed actress Lissy, has made a sensational announcement: the sequel to her hit film ‘Kothaloka’ is officially underway. Priyadarshan, who entered the film industry out of an interest in acting after completing her architecture degree in New York, initially worked as an assistant director. She later made her acting debut as a heroine in Akkineni Akhil’s film ‘Hello’, which introduced her to Telugu audiences. Following this, she worked on consecutive films in Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam.
After a brief break from the Telugu industry, during which she primarily focused on Malayalam opportunities, Kalyani starred last year in ‘Loka Chapter 1: Chandra’, released in Telugu as ‘Kothaloka’. Marking Kalyani’s debut in a superhero concept, the film achieved significant success, collecting over 300 crores and setting a new record. This triumph has brought a surge of new opportunities for the actress.
Produced by Dulquer Salmaan under the Wayfarer Films banner and directed by Dominic Arun, ‘Kothaloka’ featured Kalyani Priyadarshan in the titular role of Chandra, with Naslen, Tovino Thomas, and Soubin Shahir in key supporting roles. The movie quickly grossed Rs. 42 crores in Malayalam within just three days of its release, eventually reaching the Rs. 300 crore mark worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing film in the Malayalam film industry. Based on India’s first superwoman concept, the film captivated audiences by skillfully balancing commercial elements with emotional depth. Kalyani, in particular, received critical acclaim for her action performance and compelling screen presence as Chandra.
Record-Breaking Loka Returns
With the immense success of the first part, expectations for a sequel have naturally soared. Kalyani recently confirmed the ‘Kothaloka’ sequel during a public event, providing an unexpected update. She stated: “Currently, scripting for ‘Loka 2’ is underway. The shooting will commence from September. I am also part of this project, and I will be reprising the role of Chandra.”
Released as an Onam gift last year, ‘Kothaloka’ garnered widespread audience adoration in Kerala, necessitating additional shows. While the first half proceeded somewhat slowly, the thrilling twists in the second half captivated audiences. Kalyani’s distinct portrayal of a superwoman, moving beyond typical commercial hero roles, was particularly well-received. As ‘Loka 2’ prepares to begin shooting from September, with Kalyani Priyadarshan once again embodying Chandra, the anticipation is high to see how she will impress audiences anew in this highly anticipated sequel.
Looking Ahead
With Kalyani Priyadarshan embodying Chandra once more for ‘Loka 2’ this September, anticipation for her distinct superwoman portrayal is sky-high. Her refreshing take on heroism captivated Kerala, proving a unique draw. We eagerly await how she will further electrify audiences, undoubtedly setting new benchmarks for female-led action across the South.
