Megastar Chiranjeevi, a true self-made legend who built an empire of fans through sheer novelty and dedication, has always been synonymous with unparalleled stardom. But imagine a scenario, even before his grand debut, where a fellow actor’s presence reportedly sent shivers down his spine. Who was this enigmatic figure who dared to ‘scare’ the future Megastar?
Chiranjeevi: Self-Made Star, Enduring Legend
Megastar Chiranjeevi is a hero who rose through self-effort without any background. He consistently showcased novelty and grew into a star hero. Thinking differently from the routine, he amassed a huge fan base. Even though many heroes emerged to compete with Chiranjeevi in the film industry, the Megastar’s mark remained distinct, establishing him as a star. No matter how many heroes came, Chiranjeevi’s stardom remained intact. Even today, with so many young heroes emerging, the Megastar, even at 70 years old, continues to dominate with his unique style.
However, a surprising incident from the beginning of his career reveals which hero once gave Chiranjeevi a staggering shock. While Megastar Chiranjeevi had always triumphed over any competing hero in Tollywood, maintaining cordial relations with everyone, he himself revealed at an event that he was once genuinely scared by Victory Star Venkatesh. Chiranjeevi recounted that he was scared when he first saw Venkatesh on the sets during the shooting of the film Sangharshana, at a time when Venkatesh had not yet debuted as a hero. Speaking humorously about his fear that Venkatesh might enter as a hero, Chiranjeevi stated: “During the shooting of Sangharshana, produced by Ramanaidu Garu, a young man came to the sets one day. He was just starting to grow a mustache and was very handsome, appearing to be between 20 and 25 years old. As I wondered who he was, they told me he was Ramanaidu Garu’s son. Immediately, my heart pounded. He was so handsome… I feared Ramanaidu Garu might introduce him as a hero. What if he became my competitor? I was scared I might not get chances in Ramanaidu Garu’s films anymore.” Fearing that such a good-looking young man might become his competitor, Chiranjeevi approached Ramanaidu, asking, “Does your son have any plans to enter films?” Ramanaidu Garu replied, “No, Raja, he’s going abroad to study.” Chiranjeevi breathed a sigh of relief, thinking, “Phew!” He even encouraged, “Yes, sir, why do we need these films and struggles? Let the young man study.” However, Chiranjeevi recounted, “Even before two years passed, Venky returned from abroad and started doing films.”
The Day Venkatesh Scared the Megastar
In the 1990s, four heroes dominated Tollywood: Megastar Chiranjeevi, along with Balakrishna, Nagarjuna, and Venkatesh. These four became pillars, illuminating the Telugu film industry. Among them, only Chiranjeevi rose without any background. Balayya entered the industry as the heir to Nandamuri, Nagarjuna as the heir to Akkineni, and Venkatesh as the heir to Daggubati, all becoming star heroes through their own talent. This incident from Chiranjeevi’s early career has since become a hot topic in Tollywood. Stay tuned for more film updates.
Looking Ahead
That early career “shock,” far from deterring him, forged the indomitable spirit of Megastar Chiranjeevi. His journey, from an outsider to the undisputed king, stands as a powerful narrative that raw talent and relentless hard work conquer all. This saga continues to inspire, proving that true stardom is etched not in lineage, but in destiny earned.
