  • Sudden plot twist: Komal & Chitra become targets of mysterious GK!
  • Audience shares hero’s dialogue: “I feel disgusted!” Total bore.

Viswak Sen’s latest offering, ‘Funky’, promised a wild ride but sadly delivered a bumpy, disappointing journey, completely failing to entertain audiences. Our review unpacks why director Komal’s vision, coupled with reportedly excessive producer spending influenced by a certain GK, misses its mark entirely. If you’re wondering where the fun went in ‘Funky’, you’re not alone.

Funky’s Inflated Budget Blunders

Viswak Sen’s ‘Funky’: Fun Missing! Viswak Sen’s ‘Funky’ failed to entertain audiences. In this film, director Komal makes the producer spend excessively, becoming a target due to a person named GK.

Funky Movie Plot Komal (Viswak Sen) is a film director who begins a project called ‘Funky’ under Senior Naresh’s ‘Manchi Productions’ banner. Stating an initial budget of Rs. 4 crores, Komal inflates it to an astounding Rs. 40 crores. This excessive expenditure causes the producer to fall ill, halting the film halfway through. The producer’s daughter, Chitra (Kayadu Lohar), intervenes, confronting Komal. However, Komal manipulates her by promising to complete the remaining shooting within one crore rupees. Unexpectedly, Komal and Chitra become targets of GK (Sampath Raj). The rest of the movie explores why GK attempts to obstruct their film, the true connection between Komal and GK, whether Komal ultimately overcomes these obstacles to complete the film, and Komal’s family background.

Analysis Despite director Anudeep KV’s comedic timing, Nagavamsi’s production, and Bheems’ music (who is currently in good form), the film fails to deliver. Trade circles anticipated a minimum guarantee film from such a combination, but these expectations were unmet. All the jokes that landed well in the teaser and trailers appear within the first 20 minutes of the film, and their context fails to impress. Subsequent jokes also fall flat, and the silly plot proves boring. An attempt to inject mother sentiment in the climax only further irritates the audience, whose patience is already at its peak. Much of the film’s comedy feels more suitable for social media trolling than for actual entertainment, leaving audiences to wonder if industry directors are “really this cheap.” The hero, Viswak Sen, frequently utters the dialogue “I feel disgusted,” a sentiment undoubtedly shared by the audience watching the film. While the two songs composed by Bheems are good, their placement in the film is poor. The editing is also weak, with jump cuts easily noticeable in several scenes, highlighting the lack of cohesion.

Humor Falls Flat, Audience Disgusted

Regarding the Actors’ Performances: Viswak Sen acted with his usual energy, but the humor didn’t land. He did, however, perform the emotional scene in the climax well. Kayadu Lohar is cute, but her chemistry with Viswak is lacking, and she appears noticeably taller next to him. Senior Naresh’s comedic efforts were ineffective, while Sampath Raj managed to deliver comedy while maintaining a serious demeanor. The performances of the rest of the cast were merely passable.

Overall While ‘Funky’ had some passable comedic scenes, its narrative and other aspects significantly needed improvement. Viswak Sen’s performance was a highlight, but the film as a whole was disappointing. If anyone asks how ‘Funky’ is, it wouldn’t be strange to respond, as the hero Viswak Sen himself said in the film, “I feel disgusted.”

Looking Ahead

Ultimately, ‘Funky’ barely registers beyond a few isolated laughs. Viswak Sen’s effort was noteworthy, but the film as a whole simply falls flat. As the hero himself aptly stated, for many viewers, the only fitting response to “how was it?” might indeed be, “I feel disgusted.” Hopefully, future projects offer more than just a fleeting chuckle.
