This shocking revelation, unknown to many, details his brief two-day stint behind the camera for the 1988 Tamil film ‘Guru Sishyan’. What compelled the actor to take on a directorial capacity? Uncover the fascinating, untold story behind this surprising chapter of his illustrious career.

Superstar’s Secret Directing Gig

SHOCKING: Did you know Superstar Rajinikanth worked as an assistant director for a film? This sensational revelation about the acting icon is a fact unknown to many, detailing why he took on a directorial capacity for just two days on one particular film. That film was ‘Guru Sishyan‘, a 1988 Tamil movie directed by S.P. Muthuraman, starring Rajinikanth himself alongside Prabhu, Gautami, and Seetha.

While Rajinikanth began his life as a bus conductor before receiving acting training at the Adyar Film Institute and debuting as a hero in 1975’s ‘Apoorva Raagangal’, he quickly rose to become a Superstar, starring in over 170 films. He also penned the story and screenplay for films like ‘Baba’ and ‘Valli’, and even sang one song, ‘Adikkudu Kuliru’ from ‘Mannan’, in his own voice. However, his brief stint as an assistant director remains a lesser-known chapter of his illustrious career.

The incident unfolded during the shooting of ‘Guru Sishyan’ at Brindavan Gardens in Mysore. Rajinikanth had given a 25-day call sheet for the film. After completing his scenes for a song with Gautami, he found himself with no shooting scheduled for two days while a song featuring Prabhu and Seetha was being filmed. Unable to bear sitting idle, drawing a salary, Rajinikanth expressed his desire to work.

Dedication: No Idle Moments for Rajini

Director S.P. Muthuraman initially suggested he return to Chennai, saying, “If you wish, you can go to Chennai and come back. I will complete this song in the meantime.” But Rajini insisted, “I have given you a 25-day call sheet. Do not waste these two days. Think carefully and make a decision.” The next day, Rajinikanth went to the set where Prabhu and Seetha’s song was being shot. He approached the director and stated, “I don’t want to sit idle in my room while drawing a salary. Therefore, please give me some work for today and tomorrow. I will do it.” When Director S.P. Muthuraman replied, “You can do whatever work you like,” Rajini immediately responded, “I will work as your assistant director.”

For those two days, Rajinikanth served as an assistant director for the song ‘Vaa Vaa Vanji Ilamane…’, which was filmed on Prabhu and Seetha. This unique episode marked his only foray into a directorial capacity, and he has never worked as a full-time director or assistant director again. This fascinating detail about the Superstar’s dedication to his craft highlights his unwavering work ethic, even off-screen.

Looking Ahead

This fascinating revelation isn’t just trivia; it’s a powerful testament to Thalaivar’s unparalleled dedication, even off-camera. It reaffirms his unique commitment to cinema in any capacity. This spirit ensures Rajinikanth’s enduring legacy will forever inspire generations, cementing his status as the eternal Superstar.
