Freedom of Expression: Court Draws the Line

Sensational news has emerged concerning Bollywood star Salman Khan! Comments made by director Abhinav Kashyap about Salman’s family have unexpectedly stirred up a major controversy, culminating in a Rs 9 crore defamation suit. The Mumbai Court has delivered a significant verdict, issuing a strong warning to Director Abhinav Kashyap, who has been consistently making controversial remarks against Salman Khan and his family. The court clarified that freedom of expression does not permit abusing others, and subsequently issued a temporary injunction. Judge P.G. Bhosale issued interim orders on Friday, temporarily restraining Kashyap from making objectionable comments against Salman Khan and his family members. The court emphasized, “Freedom of expression is a right granted to everyone by the Constitution. However, it is not appropriate to make inappropriate comments, abuse, or threaten an individual or their family in the name of that right. Every person has the right to protect their dignity and privacy.”

Salman Khan approached the court after Abhinav Kashyap reportedly described his family as members of a ‘Jihadi ecosystem’ and ‘criminals,’ also making personal criticisms about Salman’s appearance and age, comparing him to heinous criminals. Kashyap further targeted Salman’s father, Salim Khan, and brothers, Arbaaz and Sohail Khan, using abusive language. Salman stated that these comments were detrimental to his professional and personal reputation and expressed deep distress over his family members being unnecessarily dragged into this controversy.
