Hyderabad, renowned for its IT prowess and iconic Biryani, is now poised for a cinematic revolution! At the Telangana Gaddar Film Awards on Ugadi, CM Revanth Reddy sensationally declared the city India’s new film industry capital. This bold announcement aims to elevate Hyderabad beyond its existing fame, promising to transform it into a major hub for moviemaking, a vision that has already sparked immense excitement across South Indian entertainment circles.
Hyderabad: New National Film Hub
Hyderabad is poised to become a capital for the film industry, not just IT and Biryani, following CM Revanth Reddy’s sensational announcement at the Telangana Gaddar Film Awards ceremony. On the occasion of Ugadi, the Telangana government grandly organized the event, where CM Revanth Reddy stated that Hyderabad would become a center not only for IT and Pharma but also for the film industry. He extended Ugadi greetings to all participating film dignitaries and enthusiasts, including Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, cabinet colleague Jupally Krishna Rao, Film Development Corporation Chairman Dil Raju, Megastar Chiranjeevi, Kamal Haasan, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Ashwini Dutt, Allu Aravind, and Jayasudha.
“We consider it our government’s responsibility to present the Gaddar Film Awards on behalf of the Telangana government to renowned film artists and young actors during the Ugadi celebrations,” he stated. “Telangana State intends to recognize the film industry. Telangana State and Hyderabad City are not just recognized for IT, Pharma industries, and Hyderabad Biryani… The Telangana State government envisions today that Hyderabad will excel and become a center for the film industry at a national level.”
Expanding on this vision, CM Revanth Reddy praised the foundational efforts that brought the industry to Hyderabad. “For the Telugu film industry, which was then located in Chennai, to relocate to Hyderabad, NTR, ANR, Ramanayudu, and Krishna – these four individuals, much like the four minarets of Charminar in Hyderabad, worked as pillars for the Telugu film industry and made immense efforts to bring the cinema industry to Hyderabad,” he remarked. “Along with them, Ramoji Rao, who established Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, also made significant efforts for this industry to permanently take root in Hyderabad city.”
The CM also emphasized the importance of remembering those who worked for the welfare of film workers. “Today, we also need to remember the film personalities who worked for the welfare of the workers. Prabhakar Reddy and Dasari Narayana Rao did a great deal for the workers. Prabhakar Reddy donated his own land for film workers to build houses. He stood as a true friend of the workers. Whenever a crisis or problem arose in the film industry, Dasari Narayana Rao, as an industry elder, resolved those issues and made intense efforts for cinema to permanently thrive in Hyderabad city and for Telangana state to gain recognition for the film industry. It is necessary to remember them on this occasion.”
Honoring Cinema’s Founding Pillars
Building on the industry’s legacy and current achievements, CM Revanth Reddy referenced Kamal Haasan’s insights. “Kamal Haasan just mentioned that today, the film industry is trying to transform Hyderabad into a global hub for Pan-India Indian movies, moving beyond labels like Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. The Indian film industry needs to come under one umbrella, to deliver great films to the world from a single city.” He highlighted the success of modern blockbusters: “Today, films like ‘Baahubali,’ ‘RRR,’ ‘Kalki,’ and ‘Pushpa’ have elevated the film industry to a major national industry, a highly prosperous industry. All the elders in the film industry have worked intensely to achieve this success.”
This success, he noted, underpins the government’s commitment: “That is why, today, on behalf of the Telangana State Government, we have decided to recognize and promote the film industry in the same way we have recognized the IT and Pharma industries. Therefore, we relaunched the Nandi Awards program, which had been halted, under the name of Gaddar Awards last year, after a ten-year postponement. We are celebrating this program for the second consecutive year now.”
The CM extended congratulations: “I congratulate all of them on behalf of the Telangana State Government for the presence of personalities like Khushboo and Jayasudha at this event, and for all the seniors coming to present awards to youngsters like Naga Chaitanya and Rashmika, who received awards today, and encouraging them with a pat on the shoulder.”
He reaffirmed the government’s broader commitment: “The government is striving for Hyderabad city to develop in all sectors. CM Revanth Reddy clarified that more encouragement would be provided to the film industry, ensuring Hyderabad grows as a hub for the film industry, alongside IT and Pharma.”
Looking Ahead
CM Revanth Reddy’s declaration signals Hyderabad’s golden era. This commitment, fostering cinema alongside IT and Pharma, promises unprecedented growth. We anticipate our city not just leading India’s film industry, but shining as a global innovation hub – a true South Indian triumph.
