Young Tiger NTR, a superstar after Aadi and Simhadri, faced an unexpected jolt with the Andhrawala disaster despite massive expectations. That shocking failure led to a challenging period. We revisit this pivotal setback and explore his powerful reunion with director Puri Jagannadh, which ultimately delivered the career-defining blockbuster, Temper.

Stardom’s Sudden Setback

Young Tiger NTR, who achieved peak stardom at a very young age with films like Aadi and Simhadri, faced an unexpected setback with the disaster of Andhrawala. Released amidst massive expectations, the film shocked NTR, leading to a period of struggle after a series of flops post-Simhadri, though he later bounced back with Yamadonga.

In a revealing interview, NTR shared insights into the aftermath of Andhrawala‘s failure and his journey to the blockbuster Temper, a collaboration that finally wiped away the stain of their previous flop.

Andhrawala, also directed by Puri Jagannadh, had been released with unprecedented massive expectations in the history of Telugu cinema but unexpectedly became a disaster. Recounting the difficult period, Tarak revealed that he called Puri Jagannadh after the film’s result. Despite the failure, he noted there was no change in Puri Jagannadh’s tone or energy. “However, I spoke a bit slowly,” Tarak admitted. “I said, ‘Bhayya, our film has failed. Everyone is calling it a flop. If we step outside, people might even pelt us with stones. Nevertheless, every moment I worked with you made me happy. If possible, let’s do another film together and wipe away this stain.'”

Temper: Erasing the Stain

Due to the “Andhrawala effect,” NTR and Puri Jagannadh didn’t collaborate for 11 years. That wish was finally fulfilled with Temper, directed by Puri Jagannadh from a story provided by Vakkantham Vamsi.

NTR confessed, “Honestly, we were scared. Even while filming Temper, I frequently asked Puri Bhayya if my character would work out.” In Temper, NTR portrayed a character with negative shades – a “demon-like person transforms into a god.” He had doubts whether audiences would accept this negative aspect in his performance, but Puri Jagannadh gave him “a lot of confidence.”

Temper was released and became a super hit, with audiences wholeheartedly embracing NTR’s character. The combination of NTR and Puri Jagannadh, which had previously delivered a blockbuster hit with Yamadonga before the Andhrawala setback, once again scored a major success.

Looking Ahead

NTR’s Temper comeback with Puri re-established their magic. From Andhrawala’s shadows, this Yamadonga-level success proves resilience triumphs. Telugu audiences now eagerly anticipate what electrifying chapter this formidable duo will next pen, ensuring their legacy endures.
